Job Title: Research Associate/Project Associate
Summary: The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) is seeking a Research Associate/Project Associate to work on a project funded by Gujarat State Archaeology. The project will focus on the multifaceted analysis of archaeological ceramic, bead, and shell remains and external trade relations from the historic city of Vadnagar, Gujarat.

Eligibility/Qualification: B.Tech/M. Tech/M.Sc. in Materials Science/Materials Engineering/Metallurgy/Ceramic Science or Engineering/Archaeological Science or allied fields is essential. Candidates who have submitted their thesis are also eligible. Applicants who have cleared one of the National Eligibility Tests - CSIR-UGC NET including lectureship (Assistant Professorship) or GATE or National level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their Agencies and Institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MHRD, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, lISc, llSER etc. are preferred. Applicants are expected to be proficient in (a) experimental research, (b) data acquisition and critical analysis, and (c) oral and written scientific communication skills. Candidates with good academic track record and publication/s are desirable. An interest in Archaeological Sciences and fieldwork is desirable but not essential.
Job Description: The successful applicant will work in a team comprising Archaeology and Materials Science & Engineering researchers, and conduct research in archaeological ceramics, bead and shell remains and on the external trade relations from the Historic city of Vadnagar, Gujarat. The basic job profile includes sample preparation and characterizations of ceramic samples and thin sections, analysis of thin sections using polarizing microscope, XRD, SEM, density kit, BET etc. The candidate may have to carry out some sintering and microstructural and compositional analysis.
Duration: 1 year
Salary: 31,000 Rs. to 35,000 Rs. per month depending on the eligibility (as per funding agency norms)
